Does your voice tremble when speaking in public or during a confrontation? Believe it or not, listeners are also affected by the sound of your speaking anxiety. Their reactions? Witnessing your stress, listeners shift their bodies. In competitive speaking situations, tremoring may give others an advantage.

Check out this video for recommended vocal exercises to achieve a smooth voice.

A shaking voice is a sure sign of speaking anxiety or nervousness. In extremely high pressure, you may experience the sensation of your throat fully locked or losing your voice. These issues are caused by tension and irregular airflow in your vocal mechanism.

To mimic the action of a shaking voice, do this: Make a fist and squeeze until your hand shakes. The only way you can stop the shaking is by opening your hand. A similar action happens in the vocal mechanism both with tension and without. To release vocal tension, open your mouth, relax your jaw, sigh, or simulate a loud audible yawn. Projecting your voice necessitates not only more airflow but also more oral space. By opening your voice, you quell the quiver in favor of accessing your vocal confidence and speaking power.
