You feel an immediate anxious feeling swell in your body when you stand up and speak. Speaking fear strikes before you enter a difficult discussion or answer a tough question. Immediately, your body is flooded with nervous emotions. You feel hot and begin sweating. You feel awful about yourself. You question how to perform under pressure, which ultimately leads to wondering whether or not you will succeed.
Good news: You can change this highly distressing, turbulent experience at the moment. Until now, you likely believe you have only one option, which is to fight through your fear. There’s another way to deal in the moment when fear strikes.
Speaking Fear Strikes
You already know by now that tricks and gimmicks do not work! Fooling yourself out of fear is not an option when fear strikes. You must have proven skills and strategies that work to conquer fear and anxiety.
Beginner Speakers: Learn the basics of calming, deactivating your stress response, and staying on point to deliver your message.
Intermediate – Advanced Speakers: You already have some level of mastery to remain composed when speaking, even when fear strikes. However, you continue to be uncertain and doubtful about whether you delivered your message effectively.
